About Supervisor Claytie Davis

Claytie Davis, Jr. is best described as a man who epitomizes the essence of a family, church, and community leader. Mr. Davis is the exemplary father of two very successful, adult sons, Dr. Claytie III and Corey Barrington Davis. His pride and joy, and the newest family member of the Davis clan is his granddaughter, Alexandra Morgan who has captured the heart of her “Paw Paw”.

Born in Crowley, Louisiana, Supervisor Davis grew up in Port Arthur, Texas to Mr. Claytie, Sr. and Mrs. Eliza Davis, who introduced him to Christ at an early age. He joined the family church, Carter Chapel C.M.E. Church where he served as a youth usher and was an active member of the YPD. Claytie united with the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1970, where he has held numerous leadership positions. He has served on the Trustee and Steward Boards of Wesley Chapel AMEC- Houston, Texas, and on the Trustee Board of Bethel AMEC-San Antonio, Texas. At Bethel, Supervisor Davis also served as Director of the Scouting Program for six years, revitalizing both the girls and boys troops and establishing a scholarship fund.

This family man earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. During his college years he was drafted into The U.S. Army where he served two years in the Medical Corps. Before retiring from Southwestern Bell Corporation after 29 years of service, he worked in several levels of management and held assignments in Missouri, New Jersey and Texas. For ten years he served as treasurer of the Board of Directors of Southwestern Bell’s Employee Credit Union. From 1995-1997, Davis was the Houston Area Regional Director of the Black Professionals Organization of Southwestern Bell. At the time of his retirement, he was Director of Marketing-Data Products in San Antonio, Texas.

Prior to becoming the Episcopal Supervisor of the 16th District, he was Supervisor of the 18th District (Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland and Mozambique), living in Maseru Lesotho 2004 through 2008. He has also been an active director and treasurer of Salado Creek Foundation Board, and an active director of the Board of Paul Quinn College, Dallas, Texas, serving as Chairperson of the Finance Committee. Mr. Davis is married to the Rt. Reverend Sarah F. Davis, the presiding prelate of the Sixteenth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
As Episcopal Supervisor of the 16th District, Mr. Davis lived in Kingston Jamaica and supervises the Mission work and the Missionaries in the countries of Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Suriname, London, Holland, U.S. Virgin Islands, Windward Islands.
